Most new moms searching for newborn photographers are curious what age is best for newborn photos. Typically I recommend to get newborn babies in the studio at right around 2 weeks old.
Full Term- 2 weeks?
Babies this age tend to sleep a lot! Newborns are very flexible and posable. Because they have not gotten a lot of their strength yet, your photographer can safely pose the baby without the worry they will crawl out of the pose. Newborns this age tend to be very calm and relaxed, which also means you will be more calm and relaxed!
Some of the most difficult posed during a newborn session require babies to be super sleepy. For example, Composites like the one below are actually two images! These images are put together post processing. Having a still and sleepy baby is especially important for this pose.

Pre- term / Twins
What age is best for newborn photos when baby is preterm or twins born early? There are a few exceptions to the 2 week guideline. For babies that are born much earlier than their due date I recommend coming in right around your original due date. Kimberly Burleson Photography is sure to capture lots of beautiful newborn images even with baby being a bit older. Sessions involving an older baby due to being twins or pre term babies, tend to go very similar to a normal full term shoot. I do warn parents that there many be less full naked poses and more wrapped poses; however, I am sure to deliver you a full beautiful gallery.
Your Session
